PSN (Public Services Network)

PSN Framework - Working with the public sector to transform services

PSN provides a single network and marketplace for public sector communications, bringing suppliers and customers together to substantially reduce costs.  This is enabled through two core procurement frameworks: PSN Connectivity Framework and PSN Services Framework.

Together, these two frameworks are used to support all public sector procurement.  An open marketplace with accredited services, PSN aims to deliver the best value services over a standardised network architecture.

The Capita difference

Approved on both the Connectivity and Services frameworks, we deliver end-to-end services such as unified communications, data communications, collaboration, data centre services, hosting and security. As a service and network aggregator and integrator, we can provide a full IT service capability, from the simplest commodity item, through to large, complex, multi-service environments.

Capita IT Enterprise Services and Updata Infrastructure, which we acquired in March 2014, are members of the PSN governing body, and are committed to helping the UK government transform public services.

We work at the forefront of collaboration between industry and the public sector, to develop and implement standards, particularly around critical issues such as security.

What are the benefits?

  • Efficiency savings – simplified procurement with accredited suppliers that deliver best value services
  • Secure connectivity – users are linked through a ‘network of networks’ to share services and collaborate securely
  • Service transformation – integrated IT opens up opportunities to transform business processes, change service delivery and modernise citizen services
  • Interoperability – accredited services, based on open standards, gives buyers confidence in service integration and enables joined-up working
  • Unprecedented collaboration – a single PSN facilitates cross boundary working across all public sector bodies.

PSN Direct Network Service Providers (DNSP)

Updata’s DNSP service provides secure, resilient PSN access to the Government Conveyance Network (GCN) for public sector customers. As a DNSP, Updata complies with the Code of Interconnection (CoICo) required to access the PSN. For more information, go to the PSN DNSP page on the Updata Infrastructure website.

PSN is creating one network - a so called 'network of networks' - that will result in a more cost-effective and efficient standardised ICT infrastructure. PSN provides a secure private internet for organisations across central government and the wider public sector, replacing hundreds of disparate and disconnected infrastructures.
